Review of: Shiso Hair Mask

A good friend recently lent me her Shiso Hair Mask to try. I am admittedly a little sceptical about hair masks, after many attempts and never finding one I liked.

I washed my hair with THANN’s Aromatic Wood Shampoo, hoping that I’d see great results. I am already a devoted fan of the Aromatic Wood Shampoo, so I was happy to begin my morning with that.

The first thing I noticed about the Shiso Hair Mask was the nice light smell. It was the perfect amount for a hair mask – not too strong – but enough that it was noticeable and certainly beautiful. I massaged it in (it said roots to ends) and left it on for about 15 minutes. It washed out easily, and didn’t leave a residue.

I lightly blow-dried my hair and went off for the day. Usually my hair is an unruly, limp, disastrous mess (at least that’s how it appears to me), but I honestly had a full 110% good hair day this day. My good hair days lasted me a week, and I am already looking forward to borrowing this product from my friend again!

(Or even better….adding this mask made in heaven to my Christmas Wish List!).

Yesterday, on November 3rd 2011, Fadi Ghaby, the owner of THANN Canada launched our newest campaign... THANN supports #NOMOREBULLIES campaign.

We've all seen the news, read the blogs, watch the YouTube videos of hundreds of kids suffering as victims of the age-old crime of bullying. Did you know that 300 kids take their own lives every year in Canada alone. That is an absolutely huge number that is just completely unacceptable. At this time and age, when we think we've come a long way in accepting others who are different from us, bullying still exists.

And it won't just go away. Not without a concerted and active effort to get rid of it.

What is the #NOMOREBULLIES Campaign?

After seeing too many stories about bullying, the Majic 100 Morning show with Stu, Angie and Trish wanted to do something. A victim of bullying himself in high school, Stu tweeted one day that "If he had to visit every school in Ottawa to speak out against bullying he would". The #NoMoreBullies hashtag was created and the idea was born.

How can THANN help?

We are helping to raise awareness for this cause by donating $1 for every new follower we get in Twitter. We hope to promote anti-bullying ways by exposing the truth in all social media platform available to us. We hope to find ways we can all work together to eliminate such a pervasive issue in our society. We would love for you to join us too!

In today's society, being so busy has almost become a status symbol - the busier one is gives the impression that one is that important. Yes, perhaps an elevated and often false sense of being productive, yet it's so culturally prevalent that it is almost a sin for one to be idle, relax or pause even for a brief moment. Such notion is widely accepted and reinforced that it depicts simple pleasures in life like long walks on the beach or warm, soothing baths as simply waste of time. Having been to many work and social events lately, I have heard the answer to the question: "How are you?" - met with the very predictable: "I am so busy" one time too many.

Platinum blonde and the fake n’ bake are a thing of the past. This rang true to me during a recent visit to Vancouver Island, where hippie-chic, au-natural beauty is the norm. In a city where most would tell you that a male:female ratio of 1:7 makes for a highly competitive dating market, its reassuring to see that indeed less is more. Less makeup, less product, less pressure to be anything but the natural beauty that they are.

Today’s women are celebrated not just for the natural look but for the embodying beauty holistically. And men, though we certainly do not need their approval, are just as happy as we are to ditch the superficial exterior created by chemical based cleansers and lost hours with straighteners for essential oil extracts and natural-curl comebacks. So you woke up to winter lips – cracked, bleeding, sore and anything but kissable. Well, you have one week to soothe those puckers back to succulent for Valentines Day dessert. Here are some tried and true au-natural tips for getting back those kissable lips!

Why Do Lips Crack?

First and foremost, let’s get to the bottom of this chap attack. The skin on your lips is much thinner then elsewhere on your body. What this means is that there is just no room for those magical little oil glands to protect, hydrate and moisturize your lips when they are attacked by free radicals. When we say free radicals, we are talking about heat (indoor and outdoor), wintertime chill, the wind, the sun and even that inevitable process of aging. Indeed the primary cause of most skin damage comes from sun damage, so slap on the sunscreen all year long, but there are loads of other tricks to stay soft this season.

Are There All-Natural Solutions To Cracked Lips?

What Is The Secret Behind Black Soap?

There are hundreds of different types of all natural soaps on the market nowadays. How can you know which natural soap is best for your skin? The goal is to find an all-in-one natural body care product that can cleanse, moisturize and exfoliate your skin. Professional research and personal testing of hundreds of soaps has led me to the winner, and had me asking, what Is The Secret Behind Black Soap?

Black soap originated in West Africa and has been used throughout history by different tribes and communities for cleansing, purifying and healing the skin. It is traditionally handmade by women through the blending the bark of different plants like shea and plantain trees with water and the most beneficial oils, such as coconut oil. Health conscious people today are starting to educate themselves more and more about beauty products that are hazardous to our health and well being.
Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetic products. However, these common yet harsh and potentially harmful additives are increasingly known as something to strongly steer clear of. Mainstream cosmetic companies still use these harsh preservatives to facilitate their production as they are cheap, mass produced and easily accessible. The most common parabens used in cosmetic products are methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben. Typically, more than one paraben is used in a product, and they are often used in combination with other types of preservatives to provide preservation against a broad range of microorganisms. Cosmetics that may contain parabens include makeup, moisturizers, hair care products, and shaving products, among many others.

Exposure to the sun has a terrible damaging effect on the skin, and the face is one of the most exposed areas of the body. In order to protect the skin, you need to use a commercially produced sunblock with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Use a waterproof sunblock, or reapply after swimming.

Not only do essential oils remind us of the true natural beauty of scents around us, but when used sensibly they can be beneficial to our health also. Each essential oil has its own list of specific properties. Many of them counteract free-radicals and can provide valuable psychological and physical therapeutic benefits. The only advantage of artificial perfumes and fragrances is that they may last longer. The problem here though is that you can just reek for hours if ever you use a little too much. Smelling softer and more subtle with naturally scented lotions and oils is definitely a healthier and more holistic approach. You’ll know that no one will start sneezing when they approach you and also when breathing the scents in or absorbing them through your skin, you’re not damaging your health. Vitamin A help repair body tissue, prevents skin dryness and postpone aging. Make sure you get lots of vitamin A by supplementing your diet with milk, cheese, eggs, butter, spinash, broccolli, carrots and fish oils. However, Vitamin A is fat soluble that gets stored in the liver. Excess intake of vitamin A simply will overload the kidney.
Vitamin B improves circulation and skin color and can be found in yogurt, brown bread, wheat germ, yeast, cereal and green leafy vegetables. Vitamin B is water soluble, which means it can be taken daily.
Vitamin C helps maintain levels of collagen, a protein constituent of skin that is essential to keep skin smooth, firm and healthy looking. Eat lots of citrus fruits, strawberries, blackcurrants, potatoes, cabbage and sprouts. Vitamin C is also water soluble and can be taken on a daily basis.
Water flushes out the toxins. Consciously make an effort to have at least 8-12 glasses daily.

It has become my weekly routine to endulge in an aromatherapy hot bath with The Aromatic Wood oil. It has a beautiful natural warm and spicy scent. A couple times a week, I also love smoothing a generous amount all over for an intensive moisturizing treatment. The main ingredient is rice bran oil.
